Skip the Store: Food delivery options that are better than the supermarket.

Avoid pandemic grocery shopping with these delicious home delivery services. Everything from farm produce to seafood and even gourmet ice cream delivered to your doorstep.

I don’t know about you, but the grocery store has become one of my least favorite errands amid the pandemic. This morning I was on FOX Good Day Chicago to share a few of our favorite home delivery alternatives. You can check out the full clip here:

More and more, our family is turning to home delivery options to avoid shopping, In the process we’ve discovered that many companies offer foods that are fresher and better than store-bought and SO much more convenient. Here are some of my favorites:

FARM CSA Boxes

Many of the local farmers you see at your local farmer’s market offer a seasonal CSA program with delivery to your neighborhood or in some cases even right to your door.  The box I’m showing here is the weekly offering from Angelic Organics, a CSA farm that offers home delivery as well as over 40 pickup locations in Chicagoland.

  • CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture” — when you sign up for a farm CSA you purchase a share of their seasonal harvest.
  • What you get in your box varies from week to week throughout the season, but its always the freshest and best quality local produce available.

SITKA SALMON SHARES (Client)

Sitka Salmon Shares is a community supported fishery that offers seasonal and responsibly harvested wild Alaskan seafood via monthly home delivery.

  • I work with this company as a recipe developer and have been astounded by how much fresher their seafood is than store-bought.
  • Seafood is seasonal, much like farming, and varies from month to month. It’s currently salmon season in Alaska, so the August Sitka box includes king and coho salmon. Other months may include whitefish like Pacific cod and halibut or even Dungeness crab.

Jeni’s Ice Cream Delivery

What’s better than gourmet ice cream? Having it delivered to your door! Cult favorite Jeni’s ice cream is now offering local delivery from their seven Chicago-area scoop shops.

  • Jeni’s sent me a few pints from their new “State Fair” ice cream collection, which includes flavors like Orange Blossom Chiffon, Atlantic Beach Pie and Gooey Butter Cake.
  • Visit jenis.com/localdelivery to place an order and with four pints, delivery is free.
