Easy Teacher Gift: Sunflowers and Sunscreen

Need a clever last-minute gift for a teacher? Tie together sunscreen and sunflowers with a note that says “Thanks for Helping Me Shine!”

Today was Lillian’s last day of preschool. The class actually has another week but, quite by accident, we’d planned a visit with my sister that coincides with the final days of school. After I stopped beating myself up for letting her miss the end-of-year party, I realized I needed to scramble on an end of year teacher gift.

My mom and sister are/were both elementary school teachers, so I’ve seen my share of terrible teacher gifts over the years. I also know that gift cards are always appreciated but they’re not necessarily the most memorable.

Her head teacher is a mom and the assistant teacher will be the manager at our community pool this summer, so we thought some sort of summer sun protection might be useful. After some brainstorming and Pinterest inspiration, Lilly and I decided to give each teacher a bunch of sunflowers with a bottle of fancy sunscreen attached. Then Lilly created a hand-drawn picture for each of them and I added the message, “Thanks for helping me shine.”

Cute, useful, affordable, easy. Done. Happy summer vacation, sweet Lillian!
