Eleven Months Rocks

Before I had a kid it seemed like all the baby-related hype centered around newborns and little babies. So I guess I’d always assumed that was the “best” time in babyhood from a parenting perspective. Well it turns out I was wrong. Newborns are totally overrated. Sure, they’re tiny and they make some really peculiar sounds. But really, older babies are where it’s at.

Lillian will be e,even months old this weekend. It’s just been in the last few weeks that shes seemingly transformed into a real PERSON. She understands things when I say them! She talks (and God help me is it cute!). She can crawl and stand up (with the help of a sturdy object). She’s just awesome.

We even have inside jokes now. Like tonight while I was getting her ready for bed and I was planting mushy kisses on her very kissable cheeks. She would laugh and throw her head back. And I’d say “ok now you kiss momma” and she would smash her open mouth into my cheek and giggle hysterically. It’s just the coolest feeling to have, like, a conversation, with this little person.

I love hearing her talk… All of a sudden she has all of these WORDS. Dahdah and Mamah and Dog (Zoey) and Nana and more (food) and done (eating). And the most ridiculous of all: “no no no”. Oh and she knows what that means. As in:

Me: “Lillian come back over here now”
Her: “no no no” (while continuing to crawl towards dangerous object)

It’s really hard to keep my stern I-mean-business face on during these shenanigans.

So, if you don’t have a baby yet or if you’ve got a newborn that you just don’t know what to DO with half the time, take heart! The big secret is they get WAY cooler.
