Lillys Lunch

March 28, 2012 By jtandexler

From time to time, I receive products for review and/or include affiliate links from which I earn a small percentage from qualifying purchases, as a member of affiliate programs and as an Amazon Associate. Some blog posts and television appearances are sponsored by featured companies. All opinions stated are my own.

I’ve decided to start a new post category called Lilly’s Lunch. It will be a semi-regular feature on what we’re eating for lunch. Lilly and I typically share our lunch and with just a few adaptations we basically eat the same meal even though she’s 9 months old and doesn’t have teeth. She’s a fantastic eater and I really enjoy our lunches. Hopefully these posts will give other parents some easy ideas for healthy foods they can share with their little ones.

So…. Here’s our first one:

Greek Yogurt Chicken Salad with fresh herbs and peas.

I took some roasted, chopped chicken breast and mixed it with a dollop of Greek yogurt, a squirt of lemon juice, olive oil, a green onion, fresh basil and parsley and a handful of green peas. Lillian ate hers as-is, using her fingers. I had mine on toasted baguette with some arugula. We also split a kiwi.

This is great! I'm currently in my 3rd trimester with my first, so I'll be bookmarking these lunches for later. One question – I've heard that you aren't supposed to give lemons or lemon juice to kids under a year old. Is that an old wives tale?

Hi CJ! Great question….as far as I understand it, the acid in citrus fruits can cause some babies to get diaper rash. I don't think its really an allergy thing, just can be difficult on their systems in some cases. Lillian eats clementines pretty regularly so I didn't really think twice about a small squirt of lemon juice in the context of a larger meal. We're pretty loosey goosey about the way we introduce new foods around here bc Lilly doesn't seem to have any allergies. Of course, as with all foods/babies, you need to do what you and your baby (and pediatrician) are comfortable with. :)Mandy — Thank you 😉 Praying for you with the job search. Hang in there.
