My Blue Shoes

March 16, 2009 By jtandexler

From time to time, I receive products for review and/or include affiliate links from which I earn a small percentage from qualifying purchases, as a member of affiliate programs and as an Amazon Associate. Some blog posts and television appearances are sponsored by featured companies. All opinions stated are my own.

So, I’m interested to hear folks’ opinions on this:

I’ve chosen to wear colored shoes on my wedding day. Instead of traditional white, my shoes will be blue. I love the little hint of color peeking out from under my dress when I walk, the richness of my shoes in their aqua shade (the color shows up sort of green and dark in this pic. Its from my mom’s cell phone, so apologies for that), and the fact that they can serve as my “something blue.”

That said, I’ve noticed that folks have a pretty severe reaction when I mention that my wedding day shoes will be blue. I showed the shoes to my super-styley hair & makeup artist (who is also my brother-in-law’s sister, if you can follow that), and she literally squealed with delight. At the other end of the spectrum, when I told my own sister about the shoes (a lover of all things cream, beige or tan), she was silent for so long I thought the phone went dead. When she finally spoke again, she muttered something to the effect of “Oookay, its your wedding I guess???”.

I’m assuming these reactions have all to do with folks’ personal sense of style…mine is colorful and quirky. My sister’s is classic and traditional. But I do wonder about the general consensus.

What do you guys think? Would you wear colored shoe’s on your wedding day or go white all the way? Or do you have something completely different in mind alltogether (perhaps you’ll be barefoot on the beach, wearing rain galoshes, or sneakers under the dress?).

Incidentally, this is my last week at the office before the wedding (I took the week before off). I’m hoping I might fit SOME cooking in prior to the big day, so perhaps there will be one last pre-wedding post next week.

If not, I wish everyone well and look forward to reconnecting in April!

I love that you’re wearing colorful shoes on your wedding day. Because it makes your day that much more unique! I would’ve worn colorful shoes, but it probably wouldn’t have mattered much. By the end of our ceremony, I had kicked off my shoes. Walked down the aisle barefoot. And opted for flip flops the rest of the night! Glad I chose to go cheap on my wedding day footwear!

I love it! Your wedding should be a reflection of who you are. I personally will most likely wear flip flops at my wedding, because that’s what I love.

I love unusual wedding footwear! I wore my beat-down, black chucks for my wedding, and no one was the wiser (except my mother, who was vehemently opposed to ruining my wedding with shoes I’ve spilled beer on at concerts – http://www.flickr.com/photos/drawingwithcrayons/174661346/in/set-72157594166151280/).

I think its awesome! I won’t be waltzing down the aisle anytime soon and when I do it will be completely non-traditional. I think your blue shoes are fun and an awesome idea.

As a big fan of color, I expected nothing less from a fellow lover of ROY G BIV and all his iterations!! Incidentally, I found my dress for your wedding over the weekend and it is also, colorful and probably a little loud. True to form pour moi, non? http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3021533?Category=&Search=True&SearchType=keywordsearch&keyword=246439+in+All+Categories&origin=searchresults

Bold, original and I’m sad I didn’t even think of it myself! I love it.Do NOT even give a second thought to anyone who doesn’t like it. You could march down the aisle in sweatpants and a damn cape, and it still wouldn’t matter because it’s your day. Trust me, you’ll be so, so glad when you look back on the little things you did to make the event truly you.

I love it too. I’ve always thought about wearing a pair of deep red shoes on my wedding day. Some people are just more traditional/matchy-matchy. To each their own!

Yay blue shoes!!!…I wore blue shoes on my wedding day!! Mine were baby blue strappy sandals with white polka dots. One of my FAVORITE pictures from the whole day is a picture of the groomsmen holding me up off the ground and my pretty blue shoes are happily displayed. The day belongs to you and the DH…and if you both like blue shoes, then no one else matters!

Love them! Can’t wait to see them in real life. I actually wore spectators (black and white sandles) because my dad kept teasing me that he’d wear men’s spectators with his tux. I was hoping he would and we would match but it turned out, he was bluffing. 🙂 Just don’t get pregnant, or they won’t fit – per my latest blog. See you in a few weeks!

I love the shoes and the idea! I think you should go for it. Plus, you can wear them again!!!!! How many of us can say that about our fancy white sandals we wore at our weddings? If you think you’ll regret it, then don’t. But if your only reservation is that OTHER PEOPLE don’t feel as excited about it as you (which is what I think), then screw it and throw those gorgeous blue shoes on sista!
