This is hard to post. Nobody likes pictures of ugly food.
Ugly muffins.
Today my children and I made muffins. Things started well. But, as per usual, the introduction of batter was problematic. Things quickly devolved into spilled milk, stolen licks and sticky fingers. Distraction led to a gross miscalculation in the quantity of butter for the crumble topping.
The results, which I’d vaguely hoped to parlay into a long overdue blog post… Something about lazy Saturdays and the blissful pleasure of casually throwing together a perfect breakfast treat with the kiddos…. Well, that didn’t work out.
Once more, with feeling.
Instead I present: Reality. Hastily posted from my iPhone.
We’re all so accustomed to perfect appearances on the Internet. But life isn’t perfect. And maybe admitting it now and then is a good thing.
Despite their flawed appearance the muffins were pretty tasty. The kids were happy and proud of their work.
Happy
Watching them celebrate what I initially categorized as a failure was a humbling reminder that the big picture is more important than a perfect photo. Thank God for joyful children and self cleaning ovens.
