So here’s the thing…I haven’t COMPLETELY stopped cooking. Not exactly. Instead, I just keep cooking things that I’ve already written about, or things that are so boring its not worth bothering (like lots and lots of salads to conform with JiT’s new “wedding diet”).
Or, I do cook and then forget to take pictures: the long-promised marshmallow and cocoa gift jars; the homemade Cracker Jack; the red velvet cupcakes.
Or, we just order more Chinese food.
That said, I don’t want to go TOTALLY silent. Because what fun would that be? So, this week, I thought I’d give you some fun gift ideas. Incidentally, these are the gifts that JiT and I will be giving to our wedding party as thank yous (shhhh…don’t spoil it).
I think they’re fun and, while not exactly cheap, nothing here is going to break the bank. Could be nice ideas for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or birthdays in the near future.
First up: Custom-made clutches by GraceyBags (on Etsy)

First off, if you’re not already shopping Etsy.com, please check it out. Its become my go-to spot for everything and anything. Great handmade jewelry, clothes, purses…well, anything I think.
That said, I just loved the idea of having clutches custom-made for each of my bridesmaids to suit their personal style. I’d first seen this idea in Martha Stewart Weddings, but the bags they were referring to cost over $200 each. Umm….yeah, no. So, I was thrilled when I stumbled across the GraceyBags page on Etsy. Becky (the owner and sewing goddess) is super helpful and let me choose from about a million fabric patterns to find ones that suit each of my girls (while still fitting with my wedding theme). She’s fast too. I placed my custom order in mid-January and the bags are scheduled to arrive this week. And the price is right…$38 each!
In addition to the bags (and treating each girl to a Spa Mani/Pedi), I wanted to add just one something extra…nothing pricey…just something fun.
I’ve been seeing cocktail rings with large flowers as a trend lately — so perfect for a wedding in a greenhouse — which seemed like something the girls could wear on wedding day AND in the future.
Then a friend suggested I check out Forever21, of all places. And they have a HUGE selection of inexpesive jewelry, including a ton of fun flower rings. In addition to the vintage looking, rhinestone ones I picked up, they have a ton in bright, spring colors at prices that are too cheap for me to even mention here without blushing. They’re not going to last forever, but seriously…neither is the “Hi, I’m wearing a gigantic flower on my hand” trend).
I give you the Flip Video, a handheld digital video camera the size of a mobile phone. It has a built-in USB port for easy uploads and takes video and sound of amazingly good quality. Available for about $129…this has got to be every male gadget-head’s fantasy. It certainly put a smile on my JiT’s face when he got one.
So, there you have it. I’d love to know your thoughts! What sorts of gifts have you been giving/getting/craving lately? What about for weddings…have you given/gotten anything that’s ultra awesome? If so, I need to know about it now!
