When I started this blog, I thought of it mostly as an outlet for myself and a way to share some of my recipes and other goings-on with a few friends who might care. Since then, I’ve been amazed over an over by the wonderful people I’ve met through the magic of the Internet, and how its enriched my life. Yet, I’m always surprised when someone tells me their mother reads my blog, or when a long-lost highschool friend tells me my potato salad was a hit at a weekend bbq.
But not even those incredible experiences can compare to my amazement when I checked me email this weekend to find a note from one of my favorite blogger friends, Mandy from Just a Small Town girl. With her permission, I’m sharing the whole thing here verbatim:
Reading your blog made me want to cook and I swore that I was going to attempt all the recipes you posted on your blog. It took me all summer but I did it! Last night I made the apple dumplings (which were delicious and super easy) and successfully (or unsuccessfully, prompting second, third, or a few more tries) reached that goal! Of course most of them didn’t look nearly as awesome as your pictures, but I’m ok with that. LOL. I’ve even started looking through other recipe blogs, magazines, and book to try other new things and get new ideas. Granted I almost never stray from the recipes ( I am waiting for the day where I can say “I just added some of this and a little of that”) but I am guessing that takes a lot of time to learn.
Thanks for making the kitchen not so scary!
Mandy — Thank YOU! That is by far the nicest note I’ve ever received and I’m thrilled that my blog has sparked your culinary interests! As a small thank you to you, I’m going to send you a chef’s apron and spatula I just received in the mail from the good folks at FoodBuzz — hopefully they’ll provide inspriration for many a kitchen adventure to come!
I’m curious if there are others out there with similar experiences — either with your own blog or through reading someone else’s, where something great has come — for you or someone else — unexpectedly from your blogging adventures?
And for those of you reading my blog — if you’ve had any particular successes or failures based on the recipes I’ve posted, please let me know. I’ll try to scare up some more fun kitchen swag to reward those that comment!
Whats on my iPod: nothing actually, but I did just hear that new Britney song and its stuck in my head. Not sure how I feel about it yet.
